I’m the Most Important Politician from the South-East, Not Peter Obi — Orji Kalu Declares

Image
Former Abia State Governor and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu , has declared himself the most influential politician from Nigeria’s South-East region , dismissing claims that Labour Party ’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi , holds that position. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today , Kalu downplayed Obi’s political significance in the region, insisting that his own political record and accomplishments far outweigh Obi’s. “He (Obi) is not my leader. I am the most important politician from that zone,” Kalu said confidently. The former governor highlighted his political achievements under the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), recalling how he won two states and secured over 4.9 million votes in the 2007 presidential election. “I ran for president before, and my 4.9 million votes in 2007 are still there. We achieved a lot with PPA — we had ministers, ambassadors, and other key appointments under President Yar’Adua ,” he added. Whe...

Presidency Rejects World Bank Report on Poverty, Calls 139 Million Estimate ‘Exaggerated and Misleading’

Image
The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed a recent World Bank report claiming that about 139 million Nigerians are currently living in poverty, describing the figure as exaggerated and inconsistent with the country’s economic realities. In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu ’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare , said the World Bank’s findings must be “properly contextualised” within the limitations of global poverty assessment models . “While Nigeria values its partnership with the World Bank and appreciates its role in global development discussions, the figures quoted need proper context — they are unrealistic,” Dare stated. According to the Presidency, the World Bank’s estimate was based on the global poverty threshold of $2.15 per person per day, a benchmark established in 2017 under Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) standards. The government clarified that this figure does not reflect an actual headc...

Terzungwe Juliana Iorzaa, a 28-year-old Agriculture graduate from Benue State, has broken stereotypes by becoming one of the newest truck drivers for Dangote Oil. Rather than waiting endlessly for a white-collar job, Juliana chose a different path. She underwent professional training, earned her certification, and now proudly drives one of the company’s fuel delivery trucks across the country. Her story is a refreshing reminder that determination and hard work can open unexpected doors — and that no job is too big or too small when it leads to progress. In a society where women are often discouraged from taking up roles in male-dominated sectors, Juliana’s courage is changing perceptions and sparking conversations: 👉 As a female graduate, would you be willing to drive a Dangote truck? 👉 And as a husband, would you allow your wife to take on such a role? ...

Ex-Defence Chief Irabor Reveals Troops Used Abandoned Civil War Vehicles in Boko Haram Fight

Image
Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor (retd.), has revealed that during the peak of Nigeria’s war against Boko Haram, troops were compelled to rely on obsolete and abandoned military vehicles — some dating as far back as the Civil War era — to sustain operations. Irabor made the revelation in his newly released book titled “Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum,” which chronicles his experiences and reflections on the country’s counter-insurgency efforts, according to a report by Punch. He described the state of military hardware in the North-East theatre as “deplorable,” noting that commanders had to improvise to keep the fight going despite poor equipment and logistics. “At a particular stage of the operation, the Lafiya Dole theatre’s equipment disposition was deplorable. In order to boost the fighting capability of the forces, we resorted to scavenging dilapidated and abandoned vehicles,” Irabor wrote. The retired general said he appointe...
