Fear Grips Kwara Community as Bandits Kidnap Woman in Late-Night Attack

Fear and tension have enveloped Bishewa village near Zambufu, in the Lafiagi Emirate of Edu Local Government Area, Kwara State, after armed bandits invaded the community and abducted a woman during a late-night raid.

Eyewitnesses told Nupeko TV that the attackers, numbering about ten, stormed the village on motorcycles and began shooting indiscriminately. The son of the kidnapped woman, who narrowly escaped, said he was the target of the attack but was away on community patrol when the assailants struck.

“We heard the sound of about ten motorcycles heading toward our village. Everyone ran to take positions, but when we realised we couldn’t repel them, we fled for our lives. They kept firing and went away with my mother,” he said.

The incident occurred barely 24 hours after the community had secured the release of another abducted victim following the payment of a ₦5 million ransom.

Residents of Bishewa and neighbouring villages have raised alarm over the worsening security situation in the Lafiagi Emirate, calling on the Kwara State Government and security agencies to act swiftly to protect rural communities.

“May Allah grant the safe return of our innocent mother and prevent future occurrences,” a resident prayed.

This latest attack comes amid a surge in kidnappings and killings across Kwara’s rural areas. On Wednesday, SaharaReporters reported the abduction of two farmers at Bokungi Zambufu community under the same emirate. Similar attacks have been documented in Oke-Ode (Ifelodun LGA), Essanti (Patigi LGA), and Marri Village, where vigilantes and local leaders were killed and families displaced.

The platform also revealed that the Kwara State Government recently came under criticism after aides of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq were accused of circulating old photographs of military airstrikes in Borno State and presenting them as fresh operations in Kwara.

Residents continue to flee several communities amid repeated raids, with eyewitnesses reporting that the assailants often strike under cover of darkness or during rainfall to avoid detection.
