VeryDarkMan claps back at TVC after they analysed his comment on Hilda Baci’s cookathon crowd. The critic insists he pulls a different kind of influence, saying: ‘Crowds that go for enjoyment are different from crowds that go for war.

Social media critic, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has reacted strongly to a segment on TVC where presenters analysed his comments about celebrity chef Hilda Baci.

The controversy began after some Nigerians accused the critic of being jealous of the massive crowd Hilda pulled during her Guinness World Record cookathon. In response, VeryDarkMan argued that Nigerians are often easily swayed by events tied to food, which he described as a form of distraction.

Clarifying his stance, the critic stated he had no reason to envy Hilda, insisting that his movement is one of the largest in the country. He emphasized that while Hilda’s cookathon drew crowds for entertainment, his own influence has mobilized people for protests across Benue, Edo, and Anambra states.

“Crowds that go for enjoyment are different from crowds that go for war; I can’t compare the crowd I pull with what others pull,” he said.

In a follow-up caption to his video, VeryDarkMan accused TVC of bias, writing: “I guess we now know who is more influential, clowns, everything to force the VDM hate.”

The exchange has sparked debate online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the critic’s claims of influence versus celebrity appeal.
