The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Calabar Branch, has demanded a transparent public investigation into the alleged extrajudicial killing of 22-year-old preacher Moses Mba by policemen attached to former Cross River Governor Bassey Otu’s residence.

Mba was reportedly shot on August 1, 2025, in Calabar after requesting to preach to the governor, and later died from his injuries on August 9.

In a letter to the Cross River State Police Commissioner, NBA Calabar Chair Enomes Amatey condemned attempts to brand Mba as mentally ill, calling it an “affront to his dignity” and a ploy to shield the officers involved. The association insisted on accountability, protection for Mba’s mother, Victoria, and an independent inquiry to restore public trust in the police.
