Cole Palmer’s second-half goal gave Chelsea victory at Stamford Bridge.
Nicolas Jackson put Chelsea ahead, and Cole Palmer restored their lead after Alexander Isak’s equalizer. Chelsea had an early goal disallowed in the third minute when Palmer was flagged offside. The team’s intent was clear from the start, and their first goal in the 18th minute showcased quality.
Starting deep in his own half, Palmer launched a pass to Pedro Neto, who surged down the left, skillfully evaded defenders, and set up Jackson for a straightforward finish. Newcastle responded well and equalized in the 32nd minute, with Lewis Hall’s dangerous cross finding Isak in position to score from close range.
Chelsea began the second half strongly, with Palmer netting just a minute in. Capitalizing on a loose ball, he drove toward goal and struck a precise left-footed shot past Newcastle’s keeper, Nick Pope. As Chelsea pressed for a third, Neto’s header struck the post, and substitute Mykhailo Mudryk was denied by a sharp save from Pope.
Eddie Howe’s side continued to challenge Chelsea’s defense, creating several nervy moments around the goal. Late in the game, Chelsea had a penalty claim overturned by VAR after Dan Burn’s challenge on Christopher Nkunku.
